CATS! – International Art Exhibition & Exclusive Publication Edition

Annita Apostolidou Platis joins the CATS! International Exhibition & Art Book by Barbagelata Contemporary Art Foundation with four graphite artworks and the essay Of Thread and Shadow: The Cat as Guardian and Muse.

In September 2025, my work was honored with inclusion in the CATS! International Art Exhibition & Art Book, curated and published by the Barbagelata Contemporary Art Foundation.

This project celebrates the feline not as mere subject, but as guardian, oracle, and co-creator of artistic mystery.

The exhibition launched online on September 20, 2025, followed by the release of the luxury print edition of the art book on September 30, 2025.

My Contribution

For this special publication, I created four graphite drawings, each exploring the feline as a liminal figure — silent witness, protector of the unseen, and myth-weaver across cultures and time:

• She Who Sees Beyond
• The Oracle of Unwritten Time
• The Scribe of Forgotten Kingdoms
• The Watcher of Every Stroke

Alongside the artworks, my essay “Of Thread and Shadow: The Cat as Guardian and Muse” opens the book and weaves throughout the exhibition. It traces the presence of cats in mythology, art history, and personal encounters — from Ancient Egypt and Greece to the intimate theatre of the artist’s studio.

Why Cats?

The feline figure has always carried symbolic resonance — autonomous, watchful, and mysterious. These works reflect on that liminal presence not as domesticated companions, but as guardians of silence, intuition, and memory.

A Reflection of Gratitude and Vision - Art Magazine Feature

Annita Apostolidou Platis reflects on her Art Magazine feature, where four of her artworks highlight the dialogue between Greek heritage, contemporary vision, and global cultural exchange.

As I proudly stand alongside my four artworks featured in the latest issue of Art Magazine, I am deeply honored to be part of this vibrant celebration of contemporary art that transcends borders and connects cultures. This edition's theme resonates profoundly with my journey as an artist, wherein my Greek heritage blends seamlessly with my dynamic exploration of color and form, nurtured from a young age under the guidance of Dimitris Kantopoulos.

My artistic philosophy has always been about bridging the gap between the traditional and the contemporary, a dialogue between the past and the present that is vividly reflected in my use of acrylics, ink, and impasto, as well as my pioneering mixed-media digital collages. Educated at the Marangoni Institute in Milan, with a rich background in fashion, jewelry design, and interior design, my work is a symphony of diverse influences—from Art Nouveau and Art Deco to Surrealism.

This feature in Art Magazine is not just a showcase of my art but a testament to the power of art to foster global dialogue and understanding. Through my work, I strive to offer a window into the interplay of the local and the global, the personal and the collective—inviting viewers to witness the confluence of historical motifs reimagined through a modern lens.

I extend my deepest thanks to the editor-in-chief, Allegra Barbagelata, and the entire team at Art Magazine for this incredible opportunity. It is a privilege to share this platform with such talented artists from around the world and to contribute to the ongoing conversation that art provokes in our lives.

I would like to thank the Barbagelata Contemporary Art Foundation, the President Mrs Barbagelata Allegra, as also the Art Curator Mr. Gotteland Thierry who recognized my 3 artworks as the connection between Ancient history and Mythology that reflects great meanings of Peace and give a new option to the modern side of Art.
