Continuing My Curatorial Journey: Jurying the Chromatic International Exhibition

Every exhibition presents a different conversation.

As artists, we speak through images. As jurors, we are invited to listen carefully to those visual voices, to understand their intentions, and to evaluate them with fairness, consistency, and respect.

I recently had the opportunity to contribute once again as a member of the CEV Art Gallery Juror Panel, participating in the evaluation of artworks for the Chromatic Online Competition & Juried Exhibition. This marked my second completed exhibition with the gallery and further strengthened my commitment to curatorial practice alongside my work as a visual artist and essayist.

Unlike exhibitions defined by subject matter, Chromatic invited artists to explore one of the most expressive elements of visual language: color. Across a wide range of media and artistic approaches, each submission demonstrated a personal understanding of how color can shape atmosphere, communicate emotion, construct symbolism, and guide perception.

Evaluating these works required more than identifying technical accomplishment. It demanded careful consideration of originality, conceptual coherence, visual impact, and the relationship between color and meaning. Every artwork represented an individual creative journey, deserving thoughtful attention regardless of style or medium.

Serving as a juror continues to deepen my appreciation for the dialogue that exists between artistic creation and curatorial responsibility. While artists construct visual narratives, jurors help shape the conversation that unfolds within an exhibition. The role is not to define artistic value through personal preference, but to recognize works that communicate with clarity, authenticity, and integrity while contributing meaningfully to the exhibition as a whole.

I am sincerely grateful to Chantelle Fulce, Founder and Curator of CEV Art Gallery, for her continued trust and for the opportunity to contribute to another international exhibition. Collaborating with fellow jurors while engaging with such a diverse body of contemporary work has been both professionally rewarding and intellectually enriching.

As my curatorial journey continues, I remain committed to supporting artistic excellence through thoughtful evaluation, critical reflection, and meaningful dialogue. Each exhibition expands not only my understanding of contemporary art but also my conviction that careful curation plays an essential role in connecting artists with audiences across cultures and creative disciplines.

The completion of Chromatic represents another meaningful step within this ongoing journey—one that continues to unite my practices as a visual artist, curatorial essayist, and juror through a shared commitment to the transformative power of art.

Ruby Award for What Was Never Said | Gallery Ring RED 2026 International Exhibition

Ruby Award – When Silence Becomes the Subject

Recognition in the arts is meaningful not only because it celebrates a finished work, but because it acknowledges the ideas, research, and emotional commitment behind its creation. Every exhibition becomes a conversation between artist and audience, while every award suggests that this conversation has found resonance beyond the studio.

It is therefore a genuine pleasure to share that my artwork What Was Never Said has received the Ruby Award in Gallery Ring's RED – July 2026 International Exhibition.

Although the exhibition was dedicated to the color red, the work itself extends beyond chromatic interpretation. Red became the emotional architecture through which silence could be explored—not as emptiness, but as a living presence.

Beyond Words

The painting emerged from a simple yet enduring question:

What remains after words disappear?

Inspired by the proverb Speak No Evil, I wanted to investigate silence from another perspective. Rather than presenting silence as repression or fear, I imagined it as a conscious space where memory, affection, longing, and resilience continue to exist without needing verbal expression.

The woman's lips are covered by a single camellia.

This flower does not erase speech; it transforms it.

The gesture becomes symbolic rather than restrictive, suggesting that some emotions achieve their deepest meaning precisely because they remain unspoken.

The Language of Symbols

Throughout my work, symbolism functions as a visual vocabulary.

In What Was Never Said, every element contributes to the narrative.

The deep red camellias speak of admiration, hidden love, dignity, and emotional depth.

The koi fish, flowing gently through the composition, evoke resilience, perseverance, and spiritual transformation. Rather than surrounding the figure, they appear to travel through her inner world, suggesting that growth often occurs silently.

The restrained crimson palette allows warmth and melancholy to coexist, creating an atmosphere where emotion unfolds gradually rather than dramatically.

Even the embroidered Japanese monogram becomes part of the story, quietly affirming personal identity within a composition devoted to introspection.

Silence as Presence

Contemporary culture often celebrates visibility, immediacy, and constant communication.

Yet many of our most profound experiences exist beyond language.

Grief.

Love.

Memory.

Forgiveness.

Transformation.

These are often understood long before they are spoken.

What Was Never Said was created as an invitation to remain within that quiet space—to acknowledge that silence can hold truth without demanding explanation.

International Recognition

Receiving the Ruby Award from Gallery Ring is particularly meaningful because it recognizes a work that brings together visual execution, symbolism, and narrative within an international juried exhibition.

As contemporary artists, we increasingly work across disciplines, combining visual language, symbolism, cultural references, and narrative structures to create works that invite prolonged reflection.

Awards such as this reinforce the importance of pursuing authenticity rather than trends.

They remind us that personal visual languages continue to find audiences across cultures and international platforms.

Continuing the Journey

Every completed painting becomes part of a larger body of work rather than an isolated achievement.

What Was Never Said belongs to an ongoing exploration of mythology, feminine identity, symbolism, and emotional architecture that continues throughout my practice.

The Ruby Award, presented among the exhibition's Top Winners, represents more than recognition for a single artwork.

It becomes another milestone in an evolving artistic journey—one that continues to investigate how color, symbolism, and visual storytelling can communicate what words alone cannot.

Sometimes the most powerful stories are not those that are spoken aloud.

Beyond the Canvas: Frida Kahlo's Enduring Legacy in Contemporary Art

There are artists whose names become inseparable from the history of art, and there are those whose lives become woven into the very fabric of human resilience. Frida Kahlo belongs to both.

Long before entering Frida Kahlo: Beyond the Icon, I knew I was not simply visiting another exhibition. It was an experience I had anticipated for years—not only because of the immersive technology that promised to reinterpret her world through 360-degree projections, Virtual Reality, and digital media, but because it offered an opportunity to revisit the life of an artist whose influence continues to transcend generations, cultures, and artistic disciplines.

Frida Kahlo is often remembered through the instantly recognizable symbols that have come to define her public image: the flowers woven into her hair, her traditional Tehuana dresses, her unwavering gaze, and her remarkable self-portraits. Yet behind this powerful iconography lies a woman whose artistic language was forged through extraordinary adversity.

At the age of six, Kahlo contracted polio, an illness that left lasting effects on her body. At eighteen, she survived a devastating bus accident that changed the course of her life forever. The injuries she sustained required numerous surgeries over the following decades and left her living with chronic pain for the remainder of her life. Confined to bed during long periods of recovery, she turned toward painting—not as an escape from reality, but as a way of confronting it.

"I paint myself because I am so often alone and because I am the subject I know best," she once wrote.

Her self-portraits were never exercises in vanity. They became visual diaries where identity, memory, love, grief, physical suffering, nature, and mythology converged into a symbolic language unlike any other in twentieth-century art. Rather than concealing vulnerability, Kahlo transformed it into a source of extraordinary creative power.

Perhaps this is why her work continues to resonate so profoundly today.

Frida Kahlo reminds artists that authenticity possesses a timeless strength. In an era increasingly shaped by rapid consumption and constant visual production, her paintings encourage us to slow down and recognise the value of deeply personal expression. She demonstrated that art does not need to imitate beauty to become beautiful; it can emerge from honesty, complexity, contradiction, and emotional truth.

Her influence extends far beyond painting. Writers, photographers, filmmakers, designers, performers, and contemporary visual artists continue to find inspiration in her fearless exploration of identity and the human condition. She challenged conventional representations of femininity long before such conversations entered mainstream cultural discourse, presenting herself neither as an idealised figure nor as a victim, but as a complete human being—strong, fragile, joyful, grieving, defiant, and profoundly alive.

This is what makes Frida Kahlo: Beyond the Icon particularly compelling.

Rather than attempting to replace the original paintings, the exhibition creates an immersive environment where digital technology becomes another language for storytelling. Monumental projections, soundscapes, and Virtual Reality experiences invite visitors to step inside the emotional atmosphere surrounding Kahlo's life and artistic practice. The result is not a substitute for standing before an original work of art, but an invitation to engage with her legacy from a different perspective.

Immersive exhibitions occupy an increasingly significant place within contemporary museum practice. When thoughtfully conceived, they have the capacity to broaden accessibility, encourage emotional engagement, and introduce new audiences to artists whose works remain essential to our shared cultural heritage. Technology, in this context, serves not as spectacle but as a bridge between historical narrative and contemporary experience.

As a contemporary artist, I left the exhibition reflecting less on its technical achievements than on the enduring relevance of Frida Kahlo herself. Every generation encounters different challenges, yet her work continues to remind us that creativity often emerges not from certainty, but from perseverance. The courage to remain truthful to one's inner vision may be one of the greatest acts an artist can perform.

Frida Kahlo's greatest legacy is not merely the extraordinary body of work she left behind, nor the global recognition her image has achieved. It is the reminder that art possesses the remarkable ability to transform personal experience into a universal language. Her paintings continue to speak because they are rooted in something fundamentally human: the desire to understand ourselves, to endure, and to create meaning even in the presence of uncertainty.

More than seventy years after her death, Frida Kahlo remains far more than an icon. She continues to challenge, inspire, and accompany artists around the world, reminding us that every authentic work of art begins with the courage to look inward before speaking to the world.

Perhaps that is why her voice still feels so immediate today.

Not because history remembers her.

But because artists continue to recognize themselves in her unwavering commitment to create.

Annita Apostolidou Platis Named Emerald Artist of July 2026 by Gallery Ring

I am honoured to announce that Gallery Ring has named me Emerald Artist of July 2026 for my artwork The Sleeping Orchard, presented as part of the Artists of the Month exhibition.

The distinction includes a featured presentation in Gallery Ring's rotating homepage gallery, inclusion in the official Winners Video, and automatic entry into the Artists of the Year 2026 competition.

The Sleeping Orchard explores a symbolic landscape where dreams become spaces of quiet transformation and memory. Rather than illustrating a narrative, the work invites contemplation, allowing familiar elements—water, fruit, flowers, porcelain and the resting figure—to unfold as metaphors for renewal and inner experience.

As published by Gallery Ring, my accompanying statement reads:

"My work explores the symbolic relationship between color, memory and transformation. I create visual narratives where reality and imagination merge, allowing familiar objects, natural elements and human presence to become metaphors for inner experience.

Rather than illustrating a story, I seek to create spaces that invite contemplation and personal interpretation. In The Sleeping Orchard, the quiet dialogue between water, fruit and the resting figure reflects my fascination with dreams as places of renewal, where emotion and memory unfold beyond the limits of conscious thought. Through layered symbolism and chromatic harmony, I invite viewers to pause, reflect and discover their own meanings within the stillness of the image."

Receiving this recognition is especially meaningful because it acknowledges not only the visual qualities of the artwork, but also the symbolic language that continues to shape my artistic practice.

Annita Apostolidou Platis Receives Golden Trio Award in Gallery Ring’s ALIVE 2026 International Exhibition

Contemporary visual artist Annita Apostolidou Platis has been awarded the prestigious Golden Trio Award in Gallery Ring’s ALIVE 2026 International Juried Exhibition for three artworks from her ongoing series Rugs & Reverence: The Bee’s Dream, The Butterfly’s Eyes, and The Scarab of Light.

The Golden Trio Award is a special distinction reserved for rare occasions when a juror determines that three artworks by the same artist demonstrate such exceptional creativity, originality, and artistic excellence that selecting a single strongest work becomes impossible. Rather than recognizing one individual piece, the award acknowledges the collective strength and coherence of an artist’s submission.

The three awarded works belong to Rugs & Reverence, a series exploring the relationship between nature, cultural memory, symbolism, and the visual heritage of historic textile traditions.

Within the series, animals emerge as guardians of meaning and memory. Inspired by the weaving cultures of Persia, Arabia, China, and other regions renowned for their textile craftsmanship, each composition transforms the rug into a symbolic stage where mythology, ornament, and living forms converge.

In The Bee’s Dream, the sacred labor of the bee mirrors the patient craftsmanship of weaving. Golden threads connect hive and loom, celebrating creation through devotion, structure, and intricate design.

The Butterfly’s Eyes reflects themes of transformation and beauty. Its richly ornamented wings echo the decorative language of woven heritage, where floral symbols and jeweled motifs become visual metaphors for renewal and artistic refinement.

The Scarab of Light draws upon ancient symbolism of rebirth and cosmic order. Rising from a world of gold, porcelain, and spiraling forms, the scarab becomes an emblem of perpetual creation, embodying the rhythm through which life continuously renews itself.

Together, these works embody the central vision of Rugs & Reverence: a visual symphony of life, legacy, and ornamentation where animals become storytellers and textiles become vessels of remembrance. Through layered symbolism and intricate detail, the series invites viewers to contemplate the enduring dialogue between humanity, nature, and cultural heritage.

The recognition by Gallery Ring further highlights the international resonance of the series and its exploration of beauty, symbolism, and transformation through contemporary mixed media practice.

Serving on the Jury Panel for CEV Art Gallery's Luminous International Exhibition

Professional practice within the arts extends beyond the creation of artwork itself. It also involves engaging with the broader artistic community through curatorial dialogue, critical evaluation, and the thoughtful recognition of creative excellence.

It was an honor to serve as a member of the jury panel for the Luminous Online Competition & Juried Exhibition presented by CEV Art Gallery, contributing to the evaluation of an international collection of contemporary artworks exploring the theme of light.

Curated by Chantelle Fulce, Luminous brought together artists working across a wide range of media, each interpreting illumination through their own visual language. Reviewing the submissions offered the opportunity to engage with diverse artistic voices, approaches, and conceptual perspectives while considering originality, technical execution, visual impact, and the expressive role of light within each work.

Participating as a juror represents an important extension of my artistic practice. Alongside painting, writing, and curatorial research, jury service encourages a deeper reflection on contemporary artistic dialogue and the responsibilities involved in evaluating creative work with fairness, openness, and respect for individual expression.

I am sincerely grateful to Chantelle Fulce and CEV Art Gallery for their trust and for the opportunity to contribute to this international exhibition. I am pleased to share my inclusion in the DIGITAL | CONTEMPORARY PRACTICES section of Sfumato Art Magazine – Issue 03, published by Sfumato Art Creatives, New York.

The feature includes an artist interview and selected works from my series When Color Knows the Script, a body of work exploring symbolism, perception, memory, and the narrative potential of color. Published on pages 128–131, the presentation reflects on the evolution of my artistic practice and the role of color as both emotional language and symbolic structure within my visual storytelling.

Creative Excellence Award for Perception UnspokenCircle Foundation for the Arts | 12th International CFA Artist of the Month Competition

I am honored to have received a Creative Excellence Award in the 12th International CFA Artist of the Month Competition, organized by the Circle Foundation for the Arts.

The competition brought together more than 300 participating artists from 51 countries, representing a broad spectrum of contemporary artistic practices, media, and visual languages. Within this international context, my artwork Perception Unspoken was recognized for its uniqueness and creativity, earning a distinction that celebrates both artistic vision and individual expression.

About the Artwork

Perception Unspoken is part of my ongoing series When Color Knows the Script, a body of work exploring the symbolic relationship between perception, memory, identity, and emotional narrative.

At the center of the composition stands a female figure whose direct gaze invites contemplation while remaining partially concealed by opposing symbolic forces. A black swan and a white swan embrace her presence, reflecting the coexistence of shadow and light, instinct and grace, vulnerability and strength. Together they form a visual meditation on duality—not as conflict, but as harmony.

One crown obscures part of her vision, transforming a symbol of authority into an emblem of limitation and hidden truth. A second suspended crown cradles a pomegranate, a timeless symbol of knowledge, fertility, transformation, and initiation. Around her drift delicate sakura blossoms, reminders of impermanence and the fleeting nature of understanding.

Empty frames and a mirror without reflection suggest incomplete narratives and fragmented self-perception, while the eye pendant resting at her throat serves as a symbol of silent wisdom—the ability to perceive what cannot always be spoken.

The Language of Color

As throughout the When Color Knows the Script series, color functions as a narrative force rather than a decorative element. Muted golds, sepia browns, cream tones, and restrained crimson accents create a visual atmosphere suspended between revelation and concealment. Each hue contributes to a symbolic vocabulary through which emotion, memory, and meaning emerge.

Recognition

Receiving the Creative Excellence Award is both an honor and an encouragement to continue exploring visual storytelling through symbolism and layered narrative structures. I extend my sincere gratitude to Myrina Tunberg Georgiou, Director of the Circle Foundation for the Arts, and to the entire CFA team for their recognition and continued support of contemporary artists worldwide.

Educated at the Marangoni Institute in Milan, with a rich background in fashion, jewelry design, and interior design, my work is a symphony of diverse influences—from Art Nouveau and Art Deco to Surrealism.

Εξερευνώντας νέους κόσμους της τέχνης, όπου κάθε έκθεση μεταμορφώνει το ορατό σε εμπειρία. Περήφανη για την επίτευξη μου, η οποία εμπλουτίζει τη διαδρομή μου ως συγγραφέας κειμένων για εκθέσεις, ανοίγοντας νέους δρόμους για δημιουργική έκφραση και κριτική σκέψη.

I am thrilled to share a significant achievement in my artistic and professional development—the completion of the Art Curation & Exhibition Management course offered by the Visual Artists Association. This intensive program has been a transformative experience, equipping me with essential skills in the art of curating and the dynamics of exhibition management.

Curating is not just about organizing art; it's about creating a narrative that connects the audience with the essence of creativity. Under the guidance of distinguished mentors like Karen van Hoey Smith, whose expertise as an artist mentor provided a strong foundation, I delved deeply into the subtleties of exhibition planning and execution. With Maeve Doyle, an internationally renowned art critic, I explored various curatorial styles, gaining insights into what makes an exhibition resonate with diverse audiences. Her global perspective was invaluable, enriching my understanding and appreciation of different artistic expressions. Stephanie Dieckvoss and Emily-Jean Alexander brought a wealth of knowledge in management and project coordination. Their strategic approaches to managing art exhibitions illuminated the practical aspects of bringing an artistic vision to fruition, from the initial concept to the final installation.

This course has not only honed my skills but also expanded my professional network, connecting me with experts and practitioners who are at the forefront of the art industry. The comprehensive curriculum covered everything from the conceptualization of exhibition themes to the practicalities of public engagement, ensuring that every participant can curate with confidence and creativity. As I reflect on this journey, I am excited about the opportunities to apply these new skills in upcoming projects. This achievement marks a pivotal moment in my career as an artist and exhibition essayist. It represents a leap towards new challenges and achievements in the vibrant world of art curation.
