Featured in BCAF Art Magazine, Annita Apostolidou Platis’ The Earth Weaver (The One Who Dances with Nature’s Rhythms) reimagines Demeter, goddess of harvest and renewal. This mixed-media piece weaves myth, poetry, and surreal textures to bridge the wisdom of antiquity with the pulse of modern life.

As an artist deeply immersed in the interplay of color, texture, and historical influences, my work strives to connect the wisdom of ancient myths with the vibrant pulse of contemporary life. Four of my artworks from my latest series, as featured in BCAF Art Magazine, epitomize this journey through a blend of mixed media that speaks to both the past and the present.

My art piece, "The Earth Weaver (The One Who Dances with Nature's Rhythms)," stands as a central expression of this vision. In this artwork, I explore the persona of Demeter, the Greek goddess of harvest and renewal. Through a dynamic combination of art and poetic composition, I aim to evoke an ethereal yet tangible connection to this ancient deity, highlighting themes of harmony and cyclical renewal. Educated in fashion and jewelry design, my creative process incorporates these disciplines, allowing me to create layers of meaning that are both visually stunning and deeply symbolic. I am thrilled to share a significant achievement in my artistic and professional development—the completion of the Art Curation & Exhibition Management course offered by the Visual Artists Association. This intensive program has been a transformative experience, equipping me with essential skills in the art of curating and the dynamics of exhibition management.

Curating is not just about organizing art; it's about creating a narrative that connects the audience with the essence of creativity. Under the guidance of distinguished mentors like Karen van Hoey Smith, whose expertise as an artist mentor provided a strong foundation, I delved deeply into the subtleties of exhibition planning and execution. With Maeve Doyle, an internationally renowned art critic, I explored various curatorial styles, gaining insights into what makes an exhibition resonate with diverse audiences. Her global perspective was invaluable, enriching my understanding and appreciation of different artistic expressions. Stephanie Dieckvoss and Emily-Jean Alexander brought a wealth of knowledge in management and project coordination. Their strategic approaches to managing art exhibitions illuminated the practical aspects of bringing an artistic vision to fruition, from the initial concept to the final installation.

This course has not only honed my skills but also expanded my professional network, connecting me with experts and practitioners who are at the forefront of the art industry. The comprehensive curriculum covered everything from the conceptualization of exhibition themes to the practicalities of public engagement, ensuring that every participant can curate with confidence and creativity. As I reflect on this journey, I am excited about the opportunities to apply these new skills in upcoming projects. This achievement marks a pivotal moment in my career as an artist and exhibition essayist. It represents a leap towards new challenges and achievements in the vibrant world of art curation.

I am proud for being honored by the Accademia Italia in Arte Nel Mondo with the award "HERMES, il messaggero degli Dei".

Among other renowned artists who were also awarded, I was the only Greek artist that through my artwork I represented the power of the culture in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, including also elements from the Philosophy and the Mythology of other Ancient civilizations.

The Academic committee that evaluated my artwork, which comes from projects already demonstrated in international exhibitions and art catalogues, stated that my artistic work meets a providential need of art history!

I would like to thank the Honorary Committee of the Accademia Italia Arte nel Mondo, who in collaboration with their art experts and analysts of the department of Art Theory and History of Art, they recognized my collection of artworks as the connection between ancient civilizations through the modern side of Art.

“Foresight” is my artwork inspired from Asian culture, myths and the Japanese art of makeup. Asian theatre generally includes the most sophisticated face painting designs in the world. Eyes scare away evil spirits. Red express the positive Yang. It is for protection from evil. White is closely linked to the spiritual world. Black is about fear. Transformational makeup can portray the supernatural. Face tattoos are for protection from bad spirits. Gold is the colour of the sun. “Foresight” painting symbolizes gods’ power and mercy. It shows the inner strength and the power to see beyond.

Blue indicates a person with a stable mind. Gold is about trust and purity. “Serenity” painting symbolizes inner peace and calmness. As the ancient Ionian Greek philosopher Pythagoras said: Learn silence. With the quiet serenity of a meditative mind, listen, absorb, transcribe, and transform.

“Anticipation” is my artwork inspired from African tribes and cultures. They believed that the hair ornaments and styles have a way to communicate with the Divine Being. All patterns and colours have meaning. Colours have significance throughout all cultures and speaks to our individual personalities and thinking, influencing our emotions and also affecting lives. The colour blue is associated with open spaces, freedom, signifies peace and unity. The colour green demonstrates renewal, purple symbolizes wisdom and black is power. “Anticipation” artwork has the meaning of new beginning, new life. It is all about spiritual energy.
